Live coverage of the 2023 British Hillclimb Championship from Prescott Speed Hill Climb.

The iconic Prescott Speed Hill Climb will play host to many of the country’s top drivers this weekend (2/3 Sept) when the Bugatti Owners Club run venue plays host for the second time this season to the MSUK British Hillclimb Championship.

The prestigious series previously visited the Gloucestershire venue in April when fellow Gould drivers Wallace Menzies and Scott Moran each winning a top twelve run off.

The most recent round of the Championship at the Loton Park venue in Shropshire produced another Top twelve victory for Scott with the second one going to Sean Gould.

Nevertheless, it is defending champion Wallace Menzies who tops the point table ahead of Moran with Matthew Ryder lying in third place.

Meanwhile, in the BHC Cup, which sees points awarded based on competitors’ performance within their respective classes, there is currently a three-way tie at the top of the points table, involving Allan McDonald driving a Force sports racing car, Duncan Barnes in a Norma M20FC and Johnathan Varley, son of long-time hillclimber Peter, at the wheel of a GWR Predator.

With only one further event in the 2023 series to come following this weekend’s event, there are still plenty of battles to be resolved in the various Championship classes as well.

The weekend also features the hugely popular Midland Hillclimb Championship. Currently it is Rodney Eyles who leads the series in his Alfa Romeo 4C. He is 11 points clear of Jonathan Varley while Steve Garner lies third in his Westfield Sei, a further 7 points back. Both Eyles and Varley broke long standing class records during the previous round at Shelsley Walsh.

A capacity entry and diverse array of machinery including saloons, sports cars and single seaters will be in action each day with the quickest of the single seaters capable of outpacing a Formula One car up to one hundred miles an hour.

After practice on Saturday, Sunday will see all the important competitive runs. The highlights will be two Top 12 Run Offs where the fastest drives go all out for crucial British Hillclimb Championship points.
