What Is a Road Rally?

Road Rallies are very different to Stage Rallies not least as they are held on the public highways in standard roads with participants obeying the Highway Code at all times.

Driving talent is still required but the emphasis is on map reading with navigators directing entrants around a set route often in the dead of night. Crews must be very careful with timing, too, as cars must check into controls at a precise time to avoid incurring penalties.

With so much pressure on navigators, it is no surprise that many of the world’s top Stage Rally co-drivers earned their spurs in Britain’s vibrant road-rally scene.

– No special equipment is needed for road events, just the relevant map, a map magnifying glass and map light.
